  3. Exclamation Intalling Windows XP SP2

    Hi,

I got a new HP Compaq 6720s with pre-installed Windows Vista Home Edition. As i hate vista, i wanted to install XP SP2 instead. I cant install it as during the installation, it says:
    Setup cannot continue.
Setup did not find any hard disk drive instalation in your computer.

Tried installing Linux and it works fine.

    Any help?

    Thank you

You've probably got a SATA hard drive, right?

I'm totally baffled when it comes to SATA, but I know that they require drivers or something or other or null.

It might not find a hard drive because you haven't given it the drivers for it (it shows a little message in small white text on the bottom of the screen at the very beginning of the installation via bootup).

I had this same problem on my laptop. There are possibly a few solutions:
    1. Install the latest BIOS update. This did it for me.
    2. If you have a floppy drive, I believe the XP install can load the SATA driver.
    3. Build yourself a custom XP install CD with support for your hard drive. I don't know how to do this, but I have seen various tutorials around the web. Others around here might know.
