  3. Dell Battery Help

Hey guys, I've got a school issued Dell Inspiron 1150 Laptop, that is having some problems. According to the lights on the front, there is a "Temporary Battery Failure" but the battery works fine. I chatted with a 'Dell Customer Rep.' Person, and they told me to have the batt replaced, but I'm having a hard time beliving it.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone have any insight on what I should do?

Note: I'd take it to the tech. guys at my school, but they don't know squat, and their vocabulary is "Re-image". If the problem gets worse I will have to take it to them, but I really don't want to have to.

You need to take it to the tech guys. Save your data first. However, it might be under warranty at your school. Also, you might get into some trouble by "fixing" it yourself. Better safe than sorry my friend even if you do get a re-image with it.

Is it a battery that needs to be recalled?

It's probably best to let your school handle it -- you won't have to pay for it.

Oops, forgot that, no the battery is not under the recall, the Dell support guy told me to check it. These are Three years old, and I think that batterys aren't replaced after 1 year, but I'll wait it out, and see if it worsens.

    Thanks!

P.S. I hope I didn't offend you darkecho, it's just that most of us (@ my school) think that even calling them tech guys is a bit too much credit. But they are more friendly and helpful than Dell Support! it's sad, next year the grant will be up, and poof go the laptops, poor sixers & sevies.

Oh you didn't offfend me. Not one bit. We do re-image a lot of computers, although its usually for good cause and isn't #1 on our list. Ive gone through my share of phone calls to Dell, HP and others trying to get RMA's and what not.

I have heard similar things to other school districts around my area. I guess my school district is lucky. Our team does excellent work. When one of us can't figure out whats going wrong, usually another one can.

Well, I'm glad that not everyone is stuck with tech people that don't know squat.

yeh theres only one tech guy at my school who is actually assigned the job of being "tehcy" (if thts a word) and this guy is a complete idiot....it took him an hour to find out tht there was a piece of paper jammed in the printer when the printer display read "there is a paper jam! idiot!" or sumthin like tht, lol....and then its sad i know more about computers than all of th computer teachers in the whole school, kinda sad when you get done with the exercises b4 the teacher does and when you have to help your teacher teach the class and help them out with questions that other students have...pretty sad! :(

That used to be the case all the time at my high school. The teachers never knew a thing about computers. Ha, I remember my HTML class...boy was that ever a joke. It took her over a week to explain <tags>.

Lol, I was the "tech" guy at my elementary school, kinda like 1st-6th grade. Even though people were getting paid for the things I was doing.
