  3. HELP for File Recovery

    I don't what happen to my boss harddrive, when I plug it to my system to backup her files, there is a sound coming from a hardrive during a booting. the system failed to recognize the harddrive.

    what is the best move I should try?

    What is the sound exactly?
    And do you know the boot order of the HDDs?

    probably objects hitting.

    Atleast detected the harddrive and do backup for the files

    make sure it is set as the slave drive if on the same ide channel... if your bios still doesn't detect it then... :( not good...

    A quick thought - try it on different mobo, if it is recognized there, your problem is probally mechanical in nature.

    But,
    If its a clicking noise or something like it, the platters could be corrupt or broken :(
    If its a whiring noise, could be a motor faliure.

    You would have to fix or more likely replace the faulty components of the harddrive. Whatever they may be.

    It is probably cheaper to send it to your local comp store and get them to recover data, and then buy a new one than looking for that specific part, if the motor has gone, it must be old. If its old the part will become expensive.
