  3. Most popular forum

Hello. Yeah, that might look like an ad or something, but I was really wondering what is the most popular programming forum? I've checked some forums I found on Google, but they all are unpopular. When I say it's unpopular, I mean that there are too few active people in it and that you have to wait a bit too long for the answer.
This forum is pretty nice, but still, you have to wait until you get an answer (or don't get, that depends). Maybe there are no forum where are really many programmers helping new people in basic stuff and each other in advanced stuff?

I think all other programming communities should die and all the young programmers come flocking to YC. :p

Yes, I joined the forum just after its heyday; there was still plenty of activity. Then I remember the switch in administration and the departure of Edd (A.K.A. hot_cakes) and some of the other veteran members and the activity seemed to decline from there :(.

I LOVE this forum though and am on almost every day; the only problem is I have very little time for coding because I am actually studying to be an engineer. I'm taking lots of high level math and science classes so I don't have a lot of free time.

    Hope the activity level changes!

So is the administration inactive now? I think that we should do something to make this forum more popular... As many people are asking about programming in various forums, but I guess it would be better if all that stuff would be in one forum only (more or less)

Personally, I use StackOverflow for most anything anymore. Hardly any of the old YC members still come around; this is my first time in a month or so. After Mau left it we hit a downward slope, and while CallumJones did his best to hold it together, he just didn't have the time. And now that Juno bought it... Anyway, SO isn't exactly a forum, but it's really handy just the same.

Yes, I think we do recognize the lack of activity recently. I don't think that the number of members visiting is declining, I think it's just the number of posts that are down. If any of you do have any ideas, I would suggest that you do post them either here, or on a separate thread in the suggestions forum.

We should all also remember that at some point of time, "YC Greats" like Mau, Edd, Kyle, Callum, etc weren't looked upon as the greats that they are today. If we are not privileged to have their company in as active a form as we once did, it does not mean that we should not think it possible that we ourselves will help YC become a great place. After all, we're all here to learn and have fun. They were here for the same reasons.

I personally feel this is an opportunity for all of us to make a better community rather than nostalgically remember the times when Mau (or whoever you remember) was in charge. All of us, not just one person, can make us a stronger community.
