  3. Time Travel

I admired the discussions that occurred in the "Does the Sun Move?" thread about the Sun and Time Travel, so I am honouring those discussions by making time travel a thread of its own! So, I am going to start with a poll - IS time travel possible in your opinion (If the technology was around to do it). And don't give any smart answers like "We already are traveling in time - into the future!" We'll get into details after the poll.

I have some interesting points to talk about after the poll - for example, I just wrote an article about alternate realities today (as you do, just lying around - "ooh, I think I'll write something about Quantum Physics today!" :D) that I will publish here after the poll (Just for You).
I'm now more easily found at http://www.sigcont.com/ or my personal site http://www.haydenb.net/

I don't think so, or at least not in a way that could be usable. I think all time travel is hindered by the most basic paradox that as soon as time machines go back into the past something will eventually be changed that will lead to the time machine not being invented in the first place. How does that work?

I don't think it's ever going to be possible - things that have happened have already happened - even if we humans worked out of teleportation was possible, you can't exactly leave one teleport in the past and one in the future because the one from past will still be there in the future.

My thinking is hard to understand :p

I can't remember the exact details, but one of the russian cosmonauts who holds a record for the longest space orbit, has traveled 0.666 seconds in time, whilst orbiting the earth.

I read about this in the Guinness book of records, so I can confirm it is true. I also cannot prove that the number I've supplied is the correct one, although I do remember that the figure was under 1 second.

I think scientists do know how to travel further into time, orbit the earth at the speed of light, to the astronaut; it seems they have only been traveling for a few minutes, when in reality on earth, it's actually been a few hours. Although at this moment in time that is impossible. It what some very complicated physics involved, and I didn't quite understand!

I believe that sometime in the future we will be able to 'time travel', just as I believe there will be a method for 'waking the dead', and finding alien life. :)

That's more that your perspective on time is changing than that you are travelling in time... time isn't necessarily constant.

But I can't see it going backwards.

Deja Vu is a great movie, you have to pay attention for the ending to make sense though.

I personally don't think humans will ever find a way to actually travel in time.

If we could generate some kind of a wormhole, I could be possible. Or, we could get blown into little tiny bits of atomic waste. :) Ahh, the future is bleak. :) Anything is possible. There is a slight chance that my computer will explode and kill me. There is also a slight change that I have dreamed the past few days, and that this and many other threads were never created. :p
